Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and his wife Priscilla Chan have purchased an under-construction mansion on Indian Creek Island for $170 million. This transaction sets a new record for residential sales in Miami-Dade County.

The couple acquired the 2-acre property from Dr. Aaron Rollins, a cosmetic surgeon known for his celebrity clientele, and Marine Rollins, a real estate agent. The Wall Street Journal reported that the deal closed on Monday.

The sellers originally bought the site in 2020 for over $30 million and have since overseen the design and construction of the home. The plans call for a 30,000-square-foot estate with nine bedrooms and amenities such as a gym, hair salon, and a 1,500-gallon aquarium. Ferris Rafauli is responsible for both the architecture and interior design.

Danny and Jill Hertzberg of Coldwell Banker Realty listed the property at $200 million in November. Brett Harris of Bespoke Real Estate represented Zuckerberg and Chan in the purchase.

Located at 7 Indian Creek Island Road, this sale has drawn attention amid discussions about California’s proposed billionaire tax. If enacted, California residents with net worths exceeding $1 billion would face a one-time five percent tax. In contrast, Florida does not impose state income tax and is considering eliminating non-school property taxes on homesteaded residences.

While this is Miami-Dade’s most expensive residential sale to date, it falls short of Florida’s highest-priced home transaction—a waterfront estate in Naples sold for $225 million.

Other notable recent transactions include billionaire Vlad Doronin’s Star Island estate sale at $120 million last year. In 2022, Ken Griffin spent nearly $107 million on Adrienne Arsht’s Coconut Grove estate after relocating Citadel’s headquarters from Chicago to Miami’s Brickell area.

Griffin also holds the national record for most expensive residential purchase with his acquisition of a New York apartment for approximately $238 million in 2019.
