The Winpisinger Center will launch an Online Steward Training program starting October 1, aiming to make union education more accessible for new shop stewards who are unable to attend in-person sessions. The training is designed to provide foundational knowledge for members seeking to be effective in their roles.

“This initiative is another step forward in expanding our members’ access to quality union education, no matter where they live or work,” said Winpisinger Center Director Mary McHugh.

The program is available to all members in good standing who serve as stewards. It will run over three consecutive weeks, with each session lasting two hours and covering two main topics. To accommodate varying schedules, each session will be offered three times per week.

The first week will focus on the role of the steward and steward rights and responsibilities, with sessions scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 2 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

In the second week, the topics will shift to grievances and investigations. These sessions are set for Wednesday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.

The third week will address just cause and discipline cases as well as contract cases and past practice. Sessions are planned for Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. EDT; Thursday, October 16 at 8:00 p.m. EDT; and Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
