The U.S. Census Bureau released new Business Formation Statistics for March 2026, according to an April 8 announcement.

The Business Formation Statistics provide regular updates on new business applications and formations in the United States and Puerto Rico. This information is used by policymakers, researchers, and businesses to track economic activity and trends in entrepreneurship.

The dataset includes all twelve series—four related to applications and eight related to formations—and is updated monthly with figures available at the national, regional, and state levels. Four monthly business application series are also published for Puerto Rico as part of the standard product. The statistics include both seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted data.

According to the Census Bureau, these statistics were developed through research collaboration with economists from several institutions including the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, the University of Maryland, and the University of Notre Dame.

There was no accompanying news release for this update; only a tip sheet was provided.
