The U.S. Census Bureau has published new data on state-to-state migration and place of birth for 2024. The information comes from the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which track how people move within the United States.

The release includes two main sets of tables. The first set details the number of people moving between all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and from abroad to the United States. The second set shows where current residents were born, broken down by state, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

According to the Census Bureau, “Geographic mobility refers to the movement of people within and across boundaries.”

These statistics are intended to help researchers, policymakers, and others understand population shifts in recent years.
