The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), providing updated information on business activity in the United States. The BDS data include figures on job creation and destruction, as well as establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns. This annual series covers trends from 1978 through 2023.

The statistics are available through several platforms, including the BDS website, the Census API, and BDS Explorer. The BDS Explorer tool offers users a dashboard to create tables and charts for analyzing business dynamics using line charts, bar charts, and thematic maps.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau: “The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics.”

For more details or to access the dataset, users can visit the official BDS page or use BDS Explorer.
