At the start of the school year, the Tallahassee Police Department launched its School Zone Speed Enforcement Program. The program began with a 30-day warning period on August 11, 2025, during which over 2,500 warning letters were sent to drivers who violated speed limits in school zones. No fines were issued during this initial phase.

The warning period is set to end, and full enforcement will begin on September 11, 2025. Drivers caught speeding in designated school zones will receive a Notice of Violation and a $100 penalty.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department, “The School Zone Speed Enforcement Program supports the City of Tallahassee’s commitment to safety and prevention. By encouraging drivers to follow the law and slow down, the initiative aims to prevent crashes and protect our community’s most valuable resource, our children.”
