The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) will conduct proactive patrols in specific areas to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. This initiative comes as Tallahassee remains among the top ten cities in Florida for traffic crashes that result in serious or fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists. So far in 2025, there have been 15 pedestrians seriously injured and two fatalities involving pedestrians due to traffic crashes.

For the sixth year in a row, TPD is organizing High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) details. These patrols are supported by funding from a contract with the University of North Florida, working together with the Florida Department of Transportation. The aim is to increase compliance with traffic laws and raise awareness about pedestrian and bicyclist safety, especially in areas identified as having high numbers of related crashes.

“This heightened enforcement effort will focus primarily on education to drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists; however, violations may result in warnings or citations depending on the circumstances,” according to TPD.

The HVE patrols will take place at various locations across Tallahassee during set days and times:

– North Monroe Street from Torreya Drive to Lakeshore Drive: Mondays through Thursdays, 3 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Lake Bradford Road from Hernando Drive to Gaines Street: Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, noon to midnight
– West Gaines Street from Lake Bradford Road to Stone Valley Way: Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, 1 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– West Pensacola Street from Cactus Street to Mabry Street: Thursdays through Saturdays, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
– West Tennessee Street from High Road to Woodward Avenue: Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, 8 a.m. to midnight
– East Orange Avenue from South Monroe Street to Tartary Drive: Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays; 2 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– West Tennessee Street from Nashville Drive to Bicycle Road: Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays; all day
– Thomasville Road from Timberlane Road to Village Square Boulevard: Tuesdays through Thursdays; 6 p.m. to midnight
– Apalachee Parkway from Executive Center Drive to Idlewild Drive: Saturdays, Mondays and Fridays; 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., beginning February 1st next year
