On September 30, at around 4:43 p.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a residential fire on Skylark Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found significant flames coming from a two-story house. Crews entered the building and found heavy fire at the rear of the structure. Firefighters conducted a search of the home and confirmed that no people were inside.

One puppy was rescued from the residence, but several other pets did not survive. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Firefighters from TFD Stations 1, 3, and 4 responded to the scene. The Tallahassee Police Department, City of Tallahassee Utilities, and Leon County EMS also assisted during the incident.

The Tallahassee Fire Department issued a reminder to residents: “The Tallahassee Fire Department reminds the community of the importance of working smoke alarms and having a practiced home escape plan.”
