At around 3:19 p.m. on December 2, the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a structure fire reported on Marion Avenue. When firefighters arrived, they found significant smoke coming from a two-story house. Crews entered the home and located a fire in the basement, which they were able to quickly control.
A search of the residence confirmed that no people were inside at the time of the incident. During their response, firefighters rescued a cat from the property.
The fire is believed to have started due to an electrical issue.
The Tallahassee Fire Department received assistance from City of Tallahassee Utilities, Tallahassee Police Department, and Leon County EMS during their operations.
This incident is noted as the first residential structure fire in December for Tallahassee. In line with the department’s “Keep the Wreath Green” campaign, one green bulb on their wreath will be changed to red following this event.
