The Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) has launched its Keep the Wreath Green program for the 16th consecutive year to promote fire safety during the holiday season. The campaign features a large wreath with 50 green bulbs displayed at Dorothy B. Oven Park, located at 3205 Thomasville Road, and will remain in place through January 1, 2026.

Each time a residential fire is reported in the area, one of the green bulbs on the wreath will be replaced with a red bulb. “The holiday season is unfortunately one of the busiest times of the year for home fires,” said Fire Chief Gene Sanders. “The wreath is a simple, visual way to remind everyone of the importance of fire safety as we celebrate the season.”

Initiated in 2010, the program saw 41 bulbs turn red that first year due to residential fires over the holidays. In contrast, last year only nine bulbs were changed from green to red during this period.

TFD encourages residents to practice safe habits throughout December and stay informed by following their social media channels or visiting Talgov.com/Fire.
