Related Ross received approval on March 11 from the Wellington Village Council to construct buildings up to seven stories high on former farmland at 10400 Stribling Way. The decision allows billionaire Steve Ross’ firm to move forward with plans for an extended stay hotel, a lakeside restaurant facility, and commercial buildings as part of a mixed-use project.
The approval is significant because Wellington requires a conditional use height permit for most new structures taller than 35 feet. The council’s decision grants Related Ross permission to build an 86-foot-tall, seven-story hotel, a 47-foot-tall restaurant building by the lake, and two commercial buildings each reaching 42 feet in height. The tallest structure will be a 175,000-square-foot hotel with extended stay accommodations. A two-level restaurant building will offer balconies and outdoor seating.
According to village officials, the site was previously rezoned for up to 210,000 square feet of retail space, 105,000 square feet of restaurants, a 180-room hotel, 75,000 square feet of office space, and 215 residential units. Plans also include Wingrove Academy—a private school designed for up to 1,750 students—which is expected to be completed by ElevateEd by 2028.
Just east of the planned hotel will be two three-story buildings totaling over 68,000 square feet that will house offices, retail shops and restaurants. These buildings will be connected by bridges on their second and third floors. Other structures in the development are set to be one or two stories tall.
Wellington has become an area of interest for developers due to its proximity—about sixteen miles west—to Palm Beach and its reputation for polo fields and horse ranches. In recent months other projects have been approved or proposed in the area: In August last year developer Mark Bellissimo received approval for Marketplace at Wellington—a project including condos, a hotel and commercial space—while Meritage Homes proposed building more than two hundred townhomes on newly annexed land.
