Merlin Entertainments has announced the introduction of Galacticoaster, a new indoor roller coaster set to open at LEGOLAND Resorts in Florida and California in early 2026. The announcement was made during the IAAPA Expo 2025.
The company is investing $90 million into these attractions, marking its largest single investment at these two locations. This move aligns with Merlin’s ongoing strategy to expand LEGO-themed experiences through new formats.
Galacticoaster will offer a space-themed adventure where visitors can customize their own digital spacecraft using interactive touchscreens and RFID wristbands. There are more than 625 possible combinations for the spacecraft, allowing guests to personalize elements such as Nose, Tail, Wings, and Special Features before embarking on the ride.
The attraction features storytelling elements beginning in a Briefing Room led by Chief Engineer Biff Dipper. After customizing their craft, riders will experience an intergalactic journey with special effects and appearances from classic LEGO Space characters.
Development of Galacticoaster took over three years and involved partnerships with Merlin Magic Making (MMM), ART Engineering, 2Heads, AVSC, Imagineize, and LEGO Brand Parks & Experience teams. Rob Smith, COO of Merlin Entertainments said: “Galacticoaster redefines what a family coaster can be. It’s not just about the thrills – it’s about giving every guest the power to create their own story. It’s LEGO play, elevated to a whole new orbit. These investments reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing transformation of LEGOLAND Parks in North America into world class destination resorts. I can’t wait to see these space-themed experiences come to life in Florida and California early next year.”
Julie Estrada, North America Director of Communications for Merlin Entertainments added: “This project has been pure LEGO awesomeness from start to finish. It’s playful, it’s clever, and it’s a testament to how far we can go when imagination leads the way.”
Ahead of its opening, LEGOLAND Resorts have launched the Junior Galaxy Explorers Search—a nationwide initiative inviting families with young space enthusiasts to participate for a chance at previewing the ride and taking part in opening day celebrations. Galacticoaster is part of a broader LEGO Galaxy theme that highlights sets from different eras including Space Scooter (1979), Space Buggy, M-Tron and others. The area will feature nine large-scale models built from over half a million LEGO bricks by Master Model Builders.
LEGOLAND Florida Resort covers 150 acres near Orlando and Tampa with more than 50 rides and themed attractions based on LEGO brands. The resort also offers accommodations such as LEGOLAND Hotel and Pirate Island Hotel as well as a water park with family-friendly amenities.
