Judge Keith A. Farmer was appointed in July 2025 as judge of the Recorder’s Court of Gwinnett County, Georgia. His appointment follows a career marked by service in both the legal field and the military.
Farmer is a graduate of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU) and its College of Law. Throughout his career, he has worked in criminal defense, civil litigation, family law, and victim advocacy within Gwinnett County.
Cecil Howard, associate provost and interim dean of the FAMU College of Law, said: “Judge Farmer’s journey is an inspiration to our students and alumni alike. As a double rattler, he represents the very best of what FAMU stands for: excellence, leadership, and service. His appointment to the bench is not just a personal achievement, but a proud moment for the entire rattler community.”
Farmer began his legal practice as founder of K. Farmer Law, LLC (formerly Bridges-Farmer, LLC), handling cases in family law, civil disputes, personal injury, and criminal defense. In 2018 he joined the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit Indigent Defense appointment list and participated in the Gwinnett County Veterans Accountability Court with a focus on criminal matters for county residents. He also served as a certified mediator.
In addition to his civilian work, Farmer has served since 2006 in the U.S. Army National Guard and currently holds the rank of major as a JAG officer in the Georgia National Guard. For three years he has been special victims’ counsel for the National Guard Bureau representing military victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. He also served as deputy staff judge advocate for Joint Task Force North advising on military justice and cooperation with various law enforcement agencies.
Farmer lives with his wife and two children in Gwinnett County.
With Farmer’s appointment to the bench, FAMU College of Law now counts 28 alumni serving as judges across the country.
