The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers announced on Mar. 31 that Jon Holden has been appointed as the union’s new General Vice President of Training and Apprenticeships, effective April 1, 2026. The decision was made unanimously by the IAM Executive Council during the recent MNPL Conference in Savannah, Georgia.

This appointment is significant for members of the IAM union, as it brings leadership experience from one of its largest districts to a role focused on training and apprenticeship programs.

Holden previously served as president of IAM District 751 in Washington state. In that position, he represented tens of thousands of high-skilled workers, most of whom were involved in building Boeing aircraft at the company’s manufacturing facilities.

The union’s focus on training and apprenticeships is seen as important for maintaining a skilled workforce within industries such as aerospace manufacturing. Holden’s background suggests an emphasis on supporting members through professional development opportunities.

Observers will be watching how Holden shapes training initiatives for current and future union members in his new role.
