The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has announced that registration is open for its upcoming Spanish Leadership I Class, scheduled for April 19-24, 2025. The program will take place at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center and is available to all IAM members and staff.

IAM encourages interested members to reach out to their Local President, Business Representative, or General Chair as soon as possible to secure a spot in the class. According to IAM, fluency in Spanish is not required for participation, though some understanding of the language is considered beneficial.

All classroom instruction, books, and materials are provided in Spanish. However, the curriculum closely follows that of the English Leadership programs. The aim is to develop leadership skills while improving connections with Spanish-speaking members and communities.

The Spanish-language programs at the Winpisinger Center are organized by the Spanish Language Working Group (SLWG), made up of IAM staff and members. The program covers a variety of topics relevant to union leadership such as labor history, parliamentary procedure in local administration, steward responsibilities, human rights, organizing strategies, and government relations.

Since its inception, the Spanish Leadership Program has focused on inclusivity by creating an environment that supports members who may face language barriers. It also welcomes those interested in building solidarity with colleagues whose primary language is Spanish.

Openings remain available for all levels of Spanish Leadership programs. Participation does not count against a Local’s regular allotment for Leadership school attendance.

Important dates for upcoming Spanish-language leadership programs include:
– Spanish Leadership I: April 19-24
– Spanish Leadership II: July 26-31
– Advanced Spanish Leadership: November 15-20

IAM continues its commitment to providing comprehensive education and leadership development in multiple languages—English, Spanish, and French—to ensure access for all workers within the union movement.

For more information about the programs or registration details, individuals can contact the Winpisinger Center at 301-373-8820 or via email at w3leadership@iamaw.org.
