HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. This recognition highlights the hospital’s efforts to provide stroke patients with care that follows national, research-based guidelines.
“HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” said Chase Christianson, CEO. “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help patients recover better. The end goal is to ensure more people in Bay County can experience longer, healthier lives.”
Stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Early detection and prompt treatment are critical for improving survival rates and reducing long-term effects.
The hospital also received two additional recognitions from the American Heart Association: the Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite award, which acknowledges hospitals that reduce the time between a patient’s arrival and administration of thrombolytic therapy; and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award, aimed at ensuring stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes receive current evidence-based care during hospitalization.
Get With The Guidelines is an in-hospital program developed by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. It helps hospitals across the country align their patient care with updated research findings and best practices.
“We are incredibly pleased to recognize HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” said Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Participation in Get With The Guidelines is associated with improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
Hospitals qualify for these awards each year by showing they consistently provide quality care according to established guidelines. Participants also focus on educating patients about managing their health after leaving the hospital.
