Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay announced on Apr. 2 that it is celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking four decades as a waterfront hotel welcoming over seven million guests since opening in 1986. The hotel has hosted more than six thousand social events, including weddings, galas, conferences, and family gatherings.

The milestone highlights the hotel’s long-standing role in Tampa’s hospitality landscape and its connection to the local community. Many guests now return with their third generation of families, reflecting Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay’s enduring presence in the city.

Jessica Cain, General Manager of Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, said, “For 40 years, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay has been deeply rooted in this community, guided by our purpose of caring for people so they can be their best. From welcoming generations of travelers to celebrating milestones with our neighbors, this hotel has always been more than a place to stay. We’re especially proud that Oystercatchers, an original part of the hotel since opening day, remains a beloved local favorite. As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re energized by what’s ahead and excited to build on this legacy for years to come.”

Long-serving staff members such as Jane Booker at 1823 Kitchen & Bar and Steve Heald as hotel manager have contributed to the hotel’s story from its early days. “For nearly 40 years, I’ve watched this hotel become an integral part of Tampa Bay,” said Heald. “Every partnership we’ve made stems from that early commitment to be present in this place, not just operate in it. It’s those deep roots in this community that define who we are.”

The property has partnered with organizations like Tampa Bay Watch through initiatives such as Shells for Shorelines—where Oystercatchers restaurant recycles oyster shells into living reefs—and supports groups like Feeding Tampa Bay and Habitat for Humanity.

Looking ahead to December’s official anniversary date later this year, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay plans special experiences honoring its legacy while unveiling enhancements including pool bar upgrades and renovated boardwalk spaces.
