Florida State University’s School of Theatre will stage the musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” at the Richard G. Fallon Theatre from October 17 to October 26, 2025. The production is based on Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical and tells the story of a barber in Victorian London who seeks revenge after being wrongfully imprisoned.

Chari Arespacochaga, associate professor at FSU and director of the production, described the show as follows: “Murder, meat pies and mayhem set against some of the most complex and wonderful music ever written. Sweeney Todd promises to be an unforgettable time in the theatre! It’s a haunting fable of pain, power and the perilous pursuit of justice — a tale as timeless as it is terrifying.”

The cast includes Christian Collins as Sweeney Todd, Kyra Paternoster as Mrs. Lovett, Noah Sprague as Anthony, Leah Holewyne as Johanna, Elliott Kehoe as Judge Turpin, and Bo Bailey as Pirelli. Other members of the creative team are Kari Twyman (choreography), Mike Norris (music direction), Krista Franco (scenic design), Jen Gillette (costume design), Josh Hemmo (lighting design), and Zach Cramer (sound design).

“Sweeney Todd” was originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson and Martin Richards in association with Dean and Judy Manos. The current presentation is made possible through an arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), which also supplies authorized performance materials.
