Florida State University recently hosted the Graduate Student Resource Fair, an event aimed at supporting graduate students as they pursue their academic and professional goals. The fair, held at the Dunlap Student Success Center on September 10, 2025, welcomed about 250 new and returning students.

The event was organized by the Office of the Provost’s Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC) in partnership with the FSU Career Center. More than 20 campus and community service providers participated, offering information and networking opportunities to students from various colleges and departments.

Emily Leventhal, director of FSU’s Graduate Resource Center, highlighted the importance of building connections for student success. “One important measure of graduate student success is persistence — staying in school and finishing a degree,” said Leventhal. “What we know is that persistence isn’t just about being strong-willed; it’s affected by the communities that graduate students are integrated within — their academic programs, professional networks within their disciplines and personal communities. The annual GSRC Resource Fair allows graduate students to build new ties to the FSU community and gives them tools to support themselves across their journey.”

The fair provided resources for scholarly engagement, career preparedness, and teaching competencies. Anna Williams, a Master of Social Work and MBA student, said she found information about scholarships, grants, and research opportunities helpful.

A feature of this year’s fair was the Career Center’s Professional Photo Booth and Clothing Closet. These services were offered at no cost to help graduate students prepare for job searches after graduation.

Janie Inscore, a doctoral student in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Counseling and School Psychology combined Ph.D. program, commented on her experience: “I was very interested in learning more about the different professional advancement options within the school,” said Inscore. “I was also excited about the clothing closet that they offer — the Dress for Success Program seems beneficial for students who need to dress professionally. It’s been useful to see all these resources on campus where we can get support.”

The event is part of Florida State University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), titled “Enhancing Doctoral Education at FSU.” The plan aims to improve doctoral education through increased engagement with resources such as those featured at the fair.
