Florida State University’s Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship has marked the graduation of its first cohort from the Master of Science in entrepreneurship program, focusing on creative arts entrepreneurship.
The program is a collaboration among FSU’s College of Music, College of Fine Arts, and College of Motion Picture Arts. It is aimed at experienced professionals in fields such as music, film, visual and performing arts, or creative writing who want to add entrepreneurial skills to their practice. The curriculum is delivered online to accommodate working professionals.
Evan Eisenstark, a social media specialist at FSU and member of the graduating class, said: “As someone who is working full time but wanted to continue their education, the Creative Arts master’s program allows me the flexibility to learn valuable skills in my current career and beyond. Being a part of the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship has also given me the opportunity to meet and learn from other entrepreneurs and take the steps to one day start my own venture.”
Students follow an interdisciplinary course load that covers topics such as arts marketing, storytelling, arts and entertainment law, strategy formulation, and innovation history. The program includes applied venture courses designed to help students incubate and accelerate real creative ventures. Graduates leave with a business concept ready for development.
Darren Hoffman, teaching faculty at the College of Motion Picture Arts and Entrepreneur in Residence for JMC, said: “Entrepreneurship is often misunderstood as something separate from the creative process. In this program, we treat it as part of authorship. When artists understand how value is created, shared and maintained, they gain more freedom rather than less. That shift in perspective is what defines this first graduating cohort.”
