Florida State University’s Reubin O’D. Askew School of Public Administration and Policy has advanced in the latest ShanghaiRanking’s 2025 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), with its master’s and doctoral programs moving up to No. 4 nationally and No. 14 globally.

The GRAS ranking assesses institutions worldwide based on factors such as faculty excellence, research output, impact, international collaboration, and academic awards. The Askew School’s improved standing is attributed to its internationally recognized academic achievements and influential scholarly publications.

Dean Tim Chapin of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy commented on the accomplishment: “The Askew School of Public Administration and Policy has long been an academic powerhouse, but this ranking sees the program climb to even greater heights,” said Dean Tim Chapin. “This success is due to the excellence of the faculty, the quality of our students, and sustained investment by the state and university in the college’s world-class policy programs.”

The school prepares students for leadership roles across public, nonprofit, and private sectors at all government levels. Its curriculum emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to ensure graduates can adapt to changing professional environments.

Director Keon-Hyung Lee highlighted the school’s longstanding record: “The Askew School has consistently demonstrated high research productivity for the past 79 years, evidenced not only by the volume of scholarly output in top journals but, more importantly, by the quality, rigor and impact of the work,” Director Keon-Hyung Lee said.

Students at Askew have opportunities for interdisciplinary study tailored to various career tracks. The programs are designed to develop communication abilities as well as skills in policy analysis, management, teamwork, creative problem solving, integrity, stewardship, and hands-on learning.

GRAS evaluates about 2,000 universities from over 100 countries across a wide range of subjects including natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.
