Florida State University President Richard McCullough announced on April 16 that the university community will observe a day of remembrance on April 17. The observance will include a moment of silence at noon and opportunities for reflection both in person and virtually.
The remembrance aims to bring together students, faculty, staff, and others connected to Florida State University as they reflect on recent events and support one another. McCullough invited the university community to watch his video message and participate in the scheduled activities.
According to McCullough, “At noon, we will pause for a moment of silence. I hope you will join us, wherever you may be, in taking that time to reflect.” For those wishing to gather in person, the Student Government Association is hosting a space for reflection on Legacy Walk from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where flowers will be available near the FSU letters along with opportunities to share messages. The Unconquered Statue will also be lit throughout the day.
McCullough said that since April 17, members of the university have supported each other in many ways and emphasized that this care continues to matter. He also reminded students about available resources such as Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), which offers walk-in appointments Monday through Friday at the Askew Student Life Center or by phone around-the-clock; the Victim Advocate Program (VAP), accessible via phone or text; and the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for faculty, staff, and graduate assistants.
“Thank you for looking out for one another and for taking part in this moment as a community,” McCullough said.
