The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) has approved updated charges for Peoples Gas System, Inc.’s (PGS) Cast Iron/Bare Steel Replacement Rider (CI/BSR Rider), set to take effect in January 2026. The CI/BSR Rider supports ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the safety of Florida’s natural gas distribution infrastructure.
According to the FPSC, the new monthly surcharge will be $0.01593 per therm for residential customers. For a typical household using 20 therms per month, this translates to an increase of about 32 cents on their monthly bill.
The FPSC also finalized its review of PGS’s actual and projected true-ups for 2024 and 2025. These adjustments have been incorporated into the calculation of the new 2026 charges.
The CI/BSR Rider is designed to fund the replacement of aging cast iron, bare steel, and problematic plastic pipelines across the state. In 2026, PGS plans to invest around $62.1 million in system modernization projects. After accounting for prior-year adjustments, this results in an approved revenue requirement of $2.9 million.
PGS provides natural gas service to more than 400,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in 14 service areas throughout Florida.
