Florida has announced an additional $1.6 million investment in its teacher apprenticeship initiative, bringing the total allocation for the Pathways to Career Opportunities Grow Your Own Teacher Grant (PCOG GYO) program to $15 million. The funding aims to expand no-cost teacher apprenticeship opportunities across the state, with a focus on building a stronger pipeline of future educators.

The PCOG GYO program provides aspiring teachers with immersive, hands-on training under the supervision of experienced educators. Unlike traditional teacher preparation programs, this initiative emphasizes practical classroom experience as a primary component of professional development.

“When we invest in future educators, we invest in the success of every classroom across Florida,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “The Grow Your Own Teacher Grant supports aspiring teachers on their path to enter the profession, ensuring Florida schools have teachers that are well prepared and committed to helping students succeed.”

The new round of funding for 2025-26 will be distributed among various institutions throughout Florida. This expansion is part of ongoing efforts by state leaders to attract and retain qualified teaching professionals. The initiative builds on previous measures such as Governor Ron DeSantis’ creation of the Teacher Apprenticeship Program through HB 1035 in 2023.
