Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas and the Florida Department of Education marked the end of 2025 by highlighting key achievements and progress in education across the state. This year saw Kamoutsas assume the role of Commissioner, with a renewed commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students.
“All students deserve the best education possible. Under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida remains the most student-centered state in the nation,” said Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas. “I am proud of the many accomplishments made this year and look forward to continuing this important work in 2026.”
The Florida Department of Education oversees public education throughout Florida as part of the state’s government structure, serving about 2.8 million students across more than 4,400 public schools and 28 colleges at 175 locations statewide, according to its official website. The agency’s mission is to improve student proficiency through an integrated system that offers learning and research opportunities valued by students, parents, and communities (source).
