Film Florida announced on March 31 that it is seeking Audience Choice voters for its statewide Student Film Competition. High school and college students from across the state participated in a ten-day challenge to create short films based in Florida, using specific props, prompts, and lines of dialogue.

The competition aims to highlight the creativity and collaboration of young filmmakers while engaging the public in the voting process. Audience members are invited to screen all participating films early through Film Florida’s new streaming platform, Film Florida TV. The virtual film festival will be held on April 28, but those who sign up as Audience Choice voters can access the films from March 31 to April 10 and help select one team for the coveted Audience Choice Award.

According to John Lux, Executive Director of Film Florida, “We’re thrilled to have 30 talented teams participate in the first year of the Film Florida Student Film Competition, we’re excited to showcase their films and celebrate their outstanding work by providing a prize awarded by their peers.” Lux also thanked organization members and partners from Film Tampa Bay for supporting this initiative.

In addition to the Audience Choice Award, a panel of judges will present honors such as Best High School Student Film, Best College Student Film, Best Director, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. These awards recognize creativity and storytelling among both high school and college participants.

Film Florida describes itself as “the chief marketing, professional development and networking organization for Florida’s Screen Production Industry.” It operates as a nonprofit run by volunteers representing various sectors within screen production throughout the state.
