The yoga course at Florida A&M University is taught by Cedrita Demus, who serves as a graduate student coordinator in the College of Science and Technology and is also an adjunct professor with the College of Education. Demus has been instructing yoga at FAMU since spring 2020, aiming to provide both personal growth and academic enrichment for her students.
A student named Sims shared his perspective on participating in the class: “Honestly, I think it’s really fun,” Sims said. “It isn’t something you’d normally see a guy doing. But I feel all the same benefits that maybe a lot of women pursue yoga for — benefits that a lot of males could also use, especially because we’re often not taught to openly express our emotions.”
Yoga is presented as a way for students to slow down and find clarity amid the demands of college life.
