Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law students participated in the first-ever career fair hosted by The Florida Bar, with 20 students attending as the largest delegation, according to a March 26 announcement. Several students from different class years secured internships and potential job offers during the event.

The event aimed to connect law students with employers across Florida, providing pathways to internships and post-graduate employment. This initiative is part of FAMU’s broader effort to prepare graduates for success in the legal profession through experiential learning opportunities.

Cecil Howard, interim dean and associate provost of academic programs for the FAMU College of Law, said, “Opportunities like this career fair give our students direct access to employers and professional networks that support their transition from legal education to legal practice.” Howard also said these experiences strengthen student readiness for the profession and reflect the college’s commitment to preparing graduates for a competitive environment.

Jordan Williams, a second-year law student at FAMU, described how attending the career fair provided valuable exposure: “Attending The Florida Bar career fair gave me the opportunity to connect directly with attorneys and employers who are doing the work I hope to do after graduation. I have a better understanding now of the career paths available to me, and I am more confident as I prepare for my future.”

Randolph Reliford, assistant dean for career planning and professional development at FAMU College of Law, said that events like this help strengthen relationships between students, alumni, and members of the legal community. “The Florida Bar career fair created a valuable space for our students to interact with members of the legal community and explore opportunities that support their professional growth,” Reliford said.

The collaboration between FAMU College of Law and The Florida Bar will continue when Sia Barnes serves as keynote speaker at this year’s Hooding Ceremony on May 7 in Orlando. Legal employers or alumni interested in supporting student mentorship or internship opportunities are encouraged by organizers to contact Randolph Reliford or visit law.famu.edu.
