The family of the late George Cohon sold a waterfront lot in Palm Beach for $27.5 million, with their main estate also under contract to sell, according to a Mar. 26 announcement.
This sale is notable due to the prominence of George Cohon, who was known for expanding McDonald’s franchises internationally and introducing the fast food chain to Russia after lengthy negotiations in Soviet Moscow in 1990. He died in 2023.
Records show that the half-acre lot at Tarpon Way was sold by the Cohons to Could Be 81 LLC, managed by attorney Brian Chesky. Suzanne Frisbie with the Corcoran Group listed the property, while Liza Pulitzer and Whitney McGurk represented the buyer. The property features 255 feet of waterfront and was initially listed for $29.5 million last October.
Cohon originally purchased his Palm Beach home at 614 Tarpon Way for $3.6 million in 1997 and expanded his estate by acquiring the adjacent lot for $2.6 million in 1998, according to property records. The main estate, which includes an 11,500-square-foot mansion, a guest house, nearly three hundred feet of waterfront access, a dock and pool is currently pending sale after being listed at $34.5 million this January; Frisbie also holds that listing.
Recent activity suggests increasing demand for vacant land in Palm Beach as last week two adjacent lots totaling one acre went into contract with a combined asking price of $36.1 million. Other notable transactions this season include Kim Bepler’s purchase of a lakefront home from Flagler National Bank’s founding family for $30 million and financier Mark Marcello’s acquisition of an estate within the Mar-a-Lago Security Zone for $36 million.
