As colder temperatures are expected to arrive early next week, Duke Energy is advising customers on ways to reduce energy use and manage bills during the winter months. The company emphasizes that by taking action now, customers can maintain comfort while controlling heating costs.
Duke Energy suggests several practical steps for saving energy at home. These include setting thermostats to the lowest comfortable temperature, sealing leaks and adding insulation to prevent drafts, changing air filters regularly to improve airflow, opening blinds on sunny days for natural warmth, and operating ceiling fans clockwise in winter to circulate warm air.
The company notes that its efficiency programs have resulted in over $1 billion in bill savings for participating customers since 2019. Customers can access a range of support options, such as free home energy assessments that provide personalized reports and complimentary kits, rebates through the Smart $aver program for equipment upgrades, bill credits for enrolling smart thermostats and water heaters in demand-response programs like Power Manager/EnergyWise Home, and weatherization assistance for income-qualified households.
“By acting now, customers can take more control of their energy use – even as temperatures drop well below freezing,” Duke Energy stated.
