Qualified nonprofit organizations in South Carolina can now apply for Duke Energy Foundation grants of up to $20,000 to support programs that address health and safety issues in homes, making them eligible for energy efficiency improvements. The application window is open until October 30 for 501(c)(3) nonprofits with established home repair programs.
Many homes in the state are not able to participate in weatherization efforts due to existing problems such as roof leaks, electrical hazards, mold, pest infestations, or structural deficiencies. The grants aim to support repairs like roof replacement, electrical upgrades, plumbing fixes, structural stabilization, mold remediation, radon mitigation, and pest control. These funds cannot be used directly for weatherization or energy efficiency repairs but must focus on making homes ready for such upgrades.
Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, stated: “Recent legislative efforts have made it clear that South Carolina’s leaders realize the importance of energy efficiency and weatherization programs in moderating energy bills and the growing demand on the electric grid. As Duke Energy looks to new ways of expanding these offerings, we also understand the need to help address the underlying safety issues in homes that are barriers to these efforts.”
Duke Energy has recently expanded incentives and eligibility for its energy efficiency and demand response programs in South Carolina. More information about these initiatives can be found at https://www.duke-energy.com/SummerSavings.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support across communities where Duke Energy operates. Funded by shareholders, it supports a range of community needs.
Duke Energy is among the largest energy holding companies in the United States with operations serving customers across six states and investing heavily in grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources.
