Duke Energy Foundation has announced a commitment of $500,000 to support environmental resilience initiatives throughout North Carolina. The funding will be distributed as $25,000 grants to up to 20 nonprofit organizations working on projects that conserve natural resources, restore habitats, and improve access to outdoor spaces.

The foundation aims to help local groups implement practical projects focused on expanding or improving parks, trails, and natural areas; restoring habitats; protecting clean water; enhancing biodiversity; and promoting conservation and outdoor engagement. Eligible nonprofits can apply for the grants until March 13, 2026.

Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy North Carolina state president, said: “Local partners understand what their communities need. By supporting their conservation efforts, we’re helping enhance the natural spaces that make North Carolina communities stronger and more vibrant.”

Kyle Prairie, CEO/Executive Director of Keep North Carolina Beautiful and a previous grant recipient in 2025, stated: “Thanks to Duke Energy’s commitment, we’re not only providing the tools and resources needed to tackle litter and recycling – we’re also empowering thousands of volunteers to help create a cleaner, more beautiful North Carolina for everyone.”

Applications are currently open through March 13. More information about eligibility and how to apply is available on the Duke Energy Foundation website.

The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support across communities served by Duke Energy customers. The foundation’s funding comes from Duke Energy shareholders.
