Duke Energy Foundation has announced an investment of $187,500 in the Share the Light Fund to assist South Carolina families with energy bills following a period of extended cold weather. The recent drop in temperatures across the state has led to higher energy use and increased utility bills for many residents.
The Share the Light Fund works by supporting local agencies that help qualifying utility customers access assistance and essential resources. The new funding from Duke Energy Foundation will be distributed through the Foundation for the Carolinas to community partners throughout South Carolina.
This latest contribution adds to more than $330,000 already provided by Duke Energy, its foundation, employees, and customers through the Share the Light Fund in 2025. In total, Duke Energy’s efforts have approached $520,000 in energy bill assistance over the past year.
Shelley L. Price, executive director of G.R.A.S.P., commented on the support: “We are incredibly grateful to Duke Energy for their continued partnership and support through the Share the Light Fund. This funding allows GRASP to provide critical assistance to families and individuals who are facing difficult choices between paying for utilities and meeting other basic needs.”
Tim Pearson, Duke Energy South Carolina state president, added: “Extreme cold can increase energy needs at a time when many customers are making tough financial choices. Supporting our communities through the Share the Light Fund is an important way we can help during the winter months.”
Customers seeking help with their utility bills can locate agencies distributing assistance through Duke Energy’s Payment Assistance Finder tool. Those wishing to contribute can visit Duke Energy’s website to make donations; every dollar is matched by the Duke Energy Foundation up to $500,000.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides over $30 million annually in philanthropic support within communities served by Duke Energy. The foundation is funded by company shareholders.
Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric customers across six states and 1.7 million natural gas customers across five states. The company continues its focus on grid upgrades and cleaner generation as part of its broader energy transition strategy.
