Florida A&M University (FAMU) has announced that Darrick D. McGhee Sr., an alumnus and pastor of Bible Based Church, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation. The event is scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:10 a.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium and will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
“As a civic leader and distinguished public servant, Pastor Darrick McGhee’s reflections on Dr. King’s enduring impact and the relevance of his principles in addressing contemporary challenges will deeply inspire and resonate with our student body and the campus community,” said President Marva B. Johnson, J.D. “His keynote address will challenge attendees to consider the role of higher education in developing leaders equipped to serve with purpose, integrity, and compassion.”
McGhee is currently president and CEO of Strategic Inflection Point, LLC, a firm that provides executive coaching, leadership development, and strategic advisory services. He also serves as chief operating officer for Johnson & Blanton, LLC, where he offers guidance on government relations and public affairs. His experience includes senior leadership roles within several Florida state agencies and gubernatorial administrations; notably, he was director of Legislative Affairs for the Executive Office of the Governor of Florida.
In addition to his professional roles, McGhee is the founding pastor at Bible Based Church in Tallahassee and has led its ministry and outreach efforts for over ten years. He is recognized as a writer, speaker, and podcaster focusing on faith, leadership, education, and social responsibility. His civic involvement extends to serving on statewide boards related to education and workforce development.
McGhee graduated from FAMU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and religion. Over more than 25 years he has worked across state government, public policy initiatives, and community leadership.
The annual MLK Convocation at FAMU commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy through reflection and dialogue while encouraging ongoing commitment to justice and service.
