The City of Tallahassee recognized the contributions of its neighborhoods and residents during the annual Neighborhood Awards program held on October 6 at The Parkview at Cascades. The event, which has been a tradition for more than four decades, celebrates neighborhood leaders and residents who work to improve their communities.

According to the City, nearly 300 neighborhoods are represented in Tallahassee. Residents from many of these areas attended the awards ceremony to support nominees and learn which individuals and groups would be honored this year.

The City stated, “Engaged, collaborative neighborhoods are essential for community success. To highlight their importance, for more than 40 years, the City of Tallahassee has held the Neighborhood Awards program. It proudly honors the outstanding work being done by neighborhood leaders and residents to further enhance and enrich their communities.”

This year’s program featured awards in several categories. The Outstanding Neighborhood of the Year award was given in two categories, with each winner receiving $500 to fund a neighborhood project. Other honors included Outstanding Neighbor of the Year and Best Neighborhood Program of the Year.

“The call for nominees yielded applications that shone a light on a plethora of good-hearted citizens who take great care of their neighbors and great pride in their neighborhoods. They make Tallahassee, with its welcoming environment and natural beauty, an even better place to call home,” said City officials.
