The City of Tallahassee has opened registration for its winter sports leagues, offering a range of activities for both youth and adults. Residents can sign up now at Talgov.com/Parks.

For young athletes, the city provides soccer programs for children aged 4 to 17, with coed teams and all-girls teams available. Soccer practices are set to begin on November 17 at locations throughout Tallahassee. Games will be held on Saturdays from January 3 through February 21 at parks near participants’ practice sites. Registration for youth soccer is open until October 22.

Basketball options include coed and all-girls leagues for ages 8 to 17, divided into three age groups. Practices start in early November, and games will take place on weeknights from January 7 through March 6 across the city. The Sue McCollum Community Center will host all-girls league activities.

Additionally, the Lil Hoopsters Basketball Fundamentals Program is offered for children ages 4 to 7 at the Lawrence-Gregory Community Center. This program runs Saturday mornings from January 24 through February 28.

Registration deadlines for both youth basketball and Lil Hoopsters are also set for October 22.

Adults can participate in recreational or competitive basketball leagues if they are at least 18 years old. Teams play two games per week on weeknights between January 12 and February 20 at either the Walker-Ford Community Center or Lincoln Neighborhood Center. Team registration remains open until January 2.

Beach volleyball is available to adults as well, with recreational and competitive four-on-four leagues meeting Monday nights at Tom Brown Park over an eight-week season starting January 20. King of the Beach and Queen of the Beach two-on-two leagues meet Tuesday nights during that same period. Registration closes on January 9.

Volunteer coaches are needed for youth sports programs; parents who volunteer as head coaches receive a waived registration fee for their child’s team participation. The city encourages those interested in volunteering to contact Athletics Division staff by phone.

There are also part-time job opportunities available year-round as umpires, referees, or concession workers for both youth and adult sports events within the city’s more than one hundred parks system. Interested individuals can apply online through Talgov.com/Jobs.

“By coaching youth sports, volunteers are positively contributing to a child’s mental and physical well-being, building their confidence and teaching the valuable skills of the sport, teamwork and communication.” Those interested in volunteering as a youth coach should contact the City’s Athletics Division staff at 850-891-3866.
