City of Tallahassee announces service adjustments for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The City of Tallahassee has announced changes to its services in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19. Administrative offices will be closed for the holiday.

An annual parade and celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place downtown on January 19, supported by the City and other organizations. More details are available at Talgov.com/MLKParade.

Solid waste collection, including garbage, recycling, bulky items, and yard waste, will be delayed by one day during the week of January 18-24 for customers inside city limits. Residents are advised to place containers behind the curb the night before their service day and return them after collection is complete. Bulky items and yard waste should not be placed out earlier than the weekend before collection day. Collection dates for specific addresses can be found at Talgov.com or by calling 850-891-4968.

StarMetro, the City’s mass transit system, will operate fixed routes on a Sunday schedule with no night service on January 19. Dial-A-Ride will run from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Call Center will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Additional information is available at Talgov.com/StarMetro or by calling 850-891-5200.

The Animal Service Center will also close on January 19 and reopen for appointments only starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20. Information about adoptions and lost pets can be accessed at Talgov.com/Animals. Emergency animal control services will remain available through the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800.

City-run community centers managed by Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs will be closed on January 19 and resume normal hours on January 20. Details about these centers can be found at Talgov.com/Parks.
