The City of Tallahassee, Leon County Government, and the Tallahassee Lenders’ Consortium will host a housewarming ceremony on October 27 to welcome several first-time homebuyers to their new Community Land Trust (CLT) homes. The event will take place at 1133 Birmingham Street at 2 p.m. and will celebrate the completion of four new townhomes in the Griffin Heights neighborhood.

These 1,126-square-foot townhomes were funded with $280,000 from the City’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program and $168,000 from the County’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) allocation. The land for the project was donated by Leon County. During the ceremony, new homeowners will participate in a ribbon cutting and receive housewarming gifts.

According to organizers, “The CLT was established by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County Government to increase affordable housing opportunities in the local community.” In March 2020, both entities entered into an agreement with the Tallahassee Lenders’ Consortium to operate as the local Community Land Trust. The CLT focuses on developing affordable housing for income-eligible residents with long-term affordability restrictions. Since its inception, nine homes have been completed through this program, with an additional 18 currently under development.

After the ceremony, media representatives will have a chance to speak with homeowners and officials and tour one of the new homes.
