The U.S. Census Bureau announced on March 10 that it will provide a two-day embargo period for qualified media to access the Vintage 2025 population estimates for U.S. counties, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, as well as Puerto Rico municipios and related areas. The embargo will run from Tuesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time until Thursday, March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.

The embargoed data covers changes in total population and demographic components between April 1, 2020, and July 1, 2025. Media subscribers who register with the Census Bureau’s embargo site will be able to review these figures before their public release.

During the embargo period, registered members of the media may also request interviews with Census Bureau experts by emailing the agency directly. The Census Bureau advises embargo subscribers to confirm their login credentials by March 23 to ensure uninterrupted access.

According to the announcement, information accessed under embargo may not be published or shared in any form until after the official public release date and time on March 26 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time.

The advance access is intended to help journalists prepare accurate coverage of population trends reflected in the new estimates.
