The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar to discuss the upcoming 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which will be made public on September 11, 2025. The session is intended to help users understand how to access ACS data and resources, as well as offer guidance on comparing geographic areas and statistics over time.

The ACS collects detailed information about people and housing in the United States, including topics such as language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. For many of these subjects—over 40 in total—the ACS is the only source of local-level estimates.

One-year statistics from the survey will be available under embargo starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET for states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, along with other regions that have populations of at least 65,000. Embargoed access will end on September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this period, wire services and distribution outlets are not permitted to release news stories or data files before the official public release date and time; more details can be found in the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.

Those interested in registering for embargo access can do so through the Census Bureau’s website: www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.

The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET. Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office will lead the event.

“The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Attendees do not need to call into the webinar to hear the audio. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions during the webinar utilizing the Q&A feature and after the presentation through audio,” according to organizers.

Registration for this event is available online at https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.
