The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. These files are now available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. The updates aim to help data users create custom maps using a range of data sources.
A key feature of the 2025 release is the inclusion of new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These contain both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes that identify blocks split since 2020. Users can link this information to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
The geospatial data cover legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. These geographic boundary datasets can be linked to future demographic data from the 2025 vintage on data.census.gov, which will allow users to visualize census tabular data on maps.
While TIGER/Line files do not include demographic data themselves, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that enable users to connect with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. The agency recommends visiting its TIGER Data Products Guide page for assistance in selecting the appropriate product.
