The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers announced on Mar. 19 that its Advanced Women’s Leadership program at the William W Winpisinger Education Center is helping to develop a new generation of union activists. The program emphasizes ethical stewardship, mentorship, and professional development for women seeking higher leadership roles within the union.
The initiative aims to prepare participants not only for positions of authority but also for the responsibilities that come with leadership. The curriculum teaches that leadership involves being a steward for fellow members and stresses the importance of advocacy. Participants are encouraged to adopt the principle that “silence is acceptance,” highlighting the need for leaders to actively protect those they represent.
According to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, this approach is intended to foster a culture where future leaders are equipped with both practical skills and a strong sense of duty toward their peers. The program’s focus on mentorship seeks to ensure that women in the union have access to guidance and support as they advance in their careers.
By investing in such training programs, the organization hopes to strengthen its leadership pipeline and promote greater representation of women in key decision-making roles. The continued growth of this initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion within union leadership ranks.
